Frank J. Czapla, 75, of Gruver Street, Alden, Nanticoke, died Friday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
    Born in Larksville, he was the son of the late Joseph and Balbina Skopek Czapla. He moved to Alden at an early age and attended Newport Township schools.
    He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Nanticoke. He was employed as a salesman in the roofing industry for IKO Manufacturing, Wilmington, Del., for 11 years, retiring in 1990.
    He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and received the American Theater Ribbon and Navy Victory Medal.
    He was past director of American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke; member of the Alden Rod & Gun Club, Board of Trustees of Nanticoke Hospital for eight years and the Newport Township Planning Commission; and was a board member for the American Red Cross.
    He was preceded in death by brothers, Chester and Fred.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Eleanor Piasecki; sons, Frank Jr., Alden; Steven, Ambler; Joseph, Sheatown; daughter, Catherine Thiemann, Alden; brother, Louis, Alden; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
    Military funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday by the American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke, from the Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Nanticoke. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
