John J. Goles, of Washington, N.J., died Wednesday at ManorCare in Easton.
Born Nov. 1, 1910, in Plains Township, he was a son of the late Matthew and
Kathryn (Puk) Golis. He was a 1932 graduate of Plains Memorial High School and
a 1938 graduate of Lock Haven College. He was employed as a physical education
and driving teacher at the Washington and Warren Hills high schools in New
Jersey for many years. He was a wrestling coach at these schools and was
awarded the Harry E. Lake Award. He was inducted into the National Wrestling
Hall of Fame. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Washington,
N.J., and the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by brother, Stanley; and sisters, Mary Golis and
Surviving are his wife, the former Genevieve Oleski; daughters, Geraldine
Cole, Dallas; Kathryn Shoemaker, Marietta, Ga.; Joanne Richcreek, Fairfax,
Va.; three grandsons; a great-granddaughter; brother, Thomas, San Antonio.
Funeral services were held July 26.
