MINERS MILLS – The Miners Mills Community Club will meet at 1 p.m. today in St. Francis Church Hall. Hosting will be Francis Herbert, Joan Herbert, Rose Herbert, Lydia Homick and Jack Hoover.

NANTICOKE – There will be a rummage sale at Transfiguration Church Hall, Hanover Section, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Bag day is from 10 a.m. to noon Monday.

WILKES-BARRE – The Knights of Columbus Council 3021 Home Association will have its weekly Wednesday dinner benefit special from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the K. of C. Dining Hall, 290 Parkview Circle, behind Riders World off Coal Street, heights section of Wilkes-Barre. Donation is $6.50 per person. For information, call 822-2040 after 4 p.m.

WILKES-BARRE – The annual Gymanfa Ganu will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Welsh Presbyterian Church, corner of Meade and East Northampton streets. For information, call Martha at 829-1479.

WILKES-BARRE – The Engelbert Humperdinck concert scheduled to take place Saturday at the F.M. Kirby Center has been postponed due to an illness. Tickets for the originally scheduled performance will be honored for the new date when it is announced. Refunds will be available at the point of purchase starting today.

WILKES-BARRE – A demonstration of the swinging parapet gates on the South Franklin Street Bridge will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The parapet gates are located on the sides of the bridge and are designed to be manually pulled closed in a high-water event, allowing the water to traverse over the bridge while still staying within the confines of the walls of Solomon Creek.

The South Franklin Street Bridge was opened to traffic in August after being closed for reconstruction in April 2005. The bridge was designed by Borton-Lawson Engineering. Minichi Construction of Dupont and contracted to construct the bridge in March 2005 for just under $2.4 million. The bridge was built in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
