Donald P. Stark Sr. of Plains Township passed away Tuesday morning at home.
Born in Plains Township, he was a son of the late Charles and Anna Stark. He was educated in the Plains Township schools and was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1943. He attended Penn State University and was a graduate of Wilkes College, Class of 1949. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of LTJG. He was employed by Air Products, retiring in 1982. Mr. Stark played centerfield for the Pittsburgh Pirates Farm Team from 1947-1948. He was active in Plains American Legion Baseball and coached the Plains American Legion 1980 Championship Baseball team. Mr. Stark was inducted into the Plains Township Sports Hall of Fame in 1975. He was a member of Plains American Legion Post 558. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Plains Township.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Stark, and sisters Eleanor Baloga and Ann Stark.
He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Delaney, with whom he celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Nov. 24, 2005; sons Donald Jr., Jenkins Township; Robert Stark and his wife, Briget, Harveys Lake; daughters Linda Hivish and her husband, Robert, Trucksville; Marion Redinski and her husband, Robert, Shavertown; Carol Salerno and her husband, Thomas, Flemington, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters Dorothy McGuire, Plains Township; Janis Quirk, Yardsville, Pa.; brothers Charles Stark, Plains Township; Melvin Stark, Somerville, N.J.; and Ralph Stark, Milford, N.J.
Military funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9 a.m. from the Michael J. Mikelski Funeral Home, 293 S. River St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Plains Township. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Plains Township.
