PITTSTON – Police arrested a man on arson charges Tuesday night, saying the 19-year-old set fire to a house on South Main Street the night of June 29 as the Susquehanna River was flooding its banks, according to a report on WNEP-TV.
Shawn Stewart of Pittston was charged with multiple counts of arson, criminal mischief, criminal trespass and reckless endangerment for a blaze at 266 S. Main St.
Two National Guardsmen who were patrolling the area June 29 because of the flooding, spotted a man and a woman struggling to get out of the burning building. The guardsmen rescued the woman, Heather Lewis, and an unidentified man
Stewart was taken to Luzerne County Correctional Facility and is scheduled for arraignment today.
