DALLAS – Karen Boback, the Republican candidate for the open 117th District seat in the state House, is holding a fundraising brunch from 10 a.m. until noon on Oct. 18 at the Irem Temple Country Club.

To reserve a spot at the $25-per-person event, make a check payable to Friends of Karen Boback by Oct. 18, and mail it to Brunch with Boback, c/o Friends of Karen Boback, P.O. Box 100, Harveys Lake, PA 18618.

KINGSTON – The Public Works Department and the administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 9 for Columbus Day. Recyclables will not be collected. Residents who normally have their recyclables collected Monday are asked to place them out for collection on Monday, Oct. 16. Please refer to the 2006 recycling calendar for the remainder of the week’s collections at www.kingstonpa.org. Newsprint will not be collected the week of Oct. 9. The offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

JACKSON TWP. – Sutton Road will be closed from the Kingston Township line to Millington Road from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, for paving. A detour will be in place and motorists should plan on brief delays. All work will be done weather permitting.

LUZERNE – Council will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the borough building, 144 Academy St. The meeting is open to the public.

PLYMOUTH – A demonstration of the new voting machines will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at the municipal building, 162 W. Shawnee Ave., Plymouth.
