Sad farewell mixed with warm welcomes Sara Solomon Meyers High School

WELCOME BACK to the 2006-2007 school year. As we begin this year we are pleased to welcome our new administration here at Meyers: principal, Mr. Anthony M. Schwab, vice principal, Mr. Hal Gabriel, and dean of students, Mr. Michael Elias.

Mr. Schwab would like to congratulate everyone on a successful start to this school year. He would also like us to take a moment to remember Mr. Michael (Mickey) Gorham.

Mr. Gorham passed away on Sept. 25, 2006. As we recall things about him what stands out the most is he was our friend, colleague, coach, principal and just an outstanding person in every way.

He certainly left his mark at Meyers High School and will be sadly missed by all who new him. God Bless you Mr. Gorham, you will be forever a Mohawk.

On a happier note, I would like to talk about some upcoming events.

Voting for homecoming court will be held on Tuesday (Queen’s Court) and Wednesday (King’s Court).

Spirit week will be held the week of Oct. 23. Monday will be P.J. Day, Tuesday Twin Day, Wednesday will be Western Day, Thursday will be Jersey Day and Friday will be Color Day. Show your school spirit and participate all week.

Our homecoming game and ceremony will be Oct. 28. Senior night for all fall sports will be Nov. 3, and our Semi-Formal will be at the Woodlands Inn & Resort on Nov. 11.

It’s always exciting as we go out looking for dresses and suits to make the night special. We look forward to a great night and a lot of fun and dancing.

There will be no school on Monday in observance of Columbus Day; there will be a 12:45 dismissal on Oct. 12 for Parent-Teacher conferences.

There’s no school Nov. 10 for Veterans Day, an early dismissal at 12:45 for a Teachers In-Service on Oct. 17, and Thanksgiving vacation will be Nov. 23, 24 and 27.

Well that’s a lot going on, and we are going to be very busy.

We look forward to a great year.
