WILKES-BARRE – An intoxicated man used his head to smash two large windows at two homes Wednesday night and later assaulted two officers, according to police.
Police said they encountered Michael A. Graham, 44, covered in blood while he was walking in traffic at Hanover and Barney streets shortly after 9 p.m.
Graham, of Hanover Street, was yelling at police and neighbors and was standing in the path of passing motorists, police said.
Police said Graham dropped a glass pipe, commonly used to smoke crack cocaine, on the pavement. As police were handcuffing Graham, he slipped away because his hands were covered in blood, police said.
Police struggled to apprehend Graham who was kicking at officers.
Two officers suffered hand injuries and another officer sustained a knee injury as they were placing handcuffs on Graham, police said.
Graham was treated by city paramedics and refused to give police his name. He was identified by neighbors and through his prior contacts with police.
Police later learned that Graham ran onto the front porches at 129 Hanover St. and 69 Barney St., and used his head to smash two large windows for no apparent reason.
Graham was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, public drunkenness and two counts of criminal mischief. He was arraigned in Central Court on Thursday morning and is being held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.
