Joe Skursky sunk his third career hole in one Wednesday at Wyoming Valley Country Club.

Skursky scored the ace on Wyoming Valley’s 173-yard, par-3 13th.

College Football Kapinos in for Guy

Penn State Jeremy Kapinos has been selected a semifinalist for the Ray Guy award, presented to the nation’s top punter.

Kapinos, the Lions’ career punt yardage leader with over 9,783 yards, has averaged 42.3 yards in 44 punts this season.

Baseball Liriano out for ‘07

Minnesota Twins pitcher Francisco Liriano will have Tommy John surgery on his left elbow and is likely to miss the 2007 season.

Liriano went 12-3 with a 2.16 ERA as a rookie, but only pitched six innings over the final two months because of elbow pain.

MLB approves contract

Baseball owners unanimously approved their new labor contract on Friday during a telephone conference call.

The five-year deal, announced at the World Series last week, runs until December 2011.

The executive board of the players’ association has not yet decided on the union’s approval process.

Boxing Berbick’s kin charged

A 20-year-old nephew of former heavyweight champion Trevor Berbick and another man have been charged with beating him to death and leaving his body in a church courtyard, police said Friday.

Harold Berbick, who had been involved in a land dispute with his uncle, allegedly killed him because of it. The nephew and Kenton Gordon, 18, were ordered to remain in custody in Portland parish Friday, about 80 miles east of Kingston.

Basketball Sutton released

Former Oklahoma State basketball coach Eddie Sutton was released from a Stillwater hospital Friday after a response to a medication led paramedics to take him by ambulance to the emergency room.

Sutton was “largely unresponsive” but able to communicate verbally with police officers and paramedics after they responded to a 911 call from a Stillwater convenience store Friday.
