Robert Engleman

November 3, 2006

Robert (Dutch) Engleman, 71, of Northmoreland Township, left this world Friday after struggling with cancer.

Born and raised in Noxen, he was an avid outdoorsman in his youth. In one year, a trampoline he ran provided enough money to travel to New York City, his first trip outside Pennsylvania. After graduation he met his future wife, the former Anna Strohl, and shared with her 50 years of marriage. During this time, he embarked on several careers including, mechanic, logger, truck driver and was a retired united auto worker from Ford, of Mahwah, N.J., though he had many exploits in his travels through life, his fondest memories always centered on his youth in Noxen. He would entertain us during holidays, painting a picture from his childhood of days gone by. Robert was unique in his ability to befriend almost all. There were few people who, upon meeting Robert, didn’t call him friend. That by far was his most distinguishing characteristic. All who knew him will miss his presence. The void he has left in all our hearts is immense, and we sadly miss him. We can take comfort in knowing that some of it was music, and some tragic, he had a good life all the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and the former Mary Thompson Engleman; sister Jean Elston.

Surviving are his wife, the former Anna Strohl; sons Robert, Tunkhannock; Donald, Harveys Lake; Lee, Noxen; Randy, Martins Ferry, Ohio; daughters Susan Davidson, Lawton; Lori Weaver, Scranton. In addition “pop pop” left behind 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Betty Shook, Noxen; brother Edward, Noxen; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Nulton Funeral Home Inc., state Route 309, Beaumont, with the Rev. Jeffery Klansek of the First Baptist Church of Wyoming officiating. Interment will be in the Orcutt Grove Cemetery, Noxen.

Friends may call Monday 10 a.m. until time of service.
