William David Carew passed away on Nov. 30, 2006. Born Sept. 4, 1938, he was a beloved and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Elizabeth; sons, Christopher James, Stephen Michael and David Scott; daughters-in-law, Julie Anne and Susanna Aichy; grandchildren, Jason Joseph and Rebecca Anne; and brother, Richard.
Dave’s love for his family was the guiding force of his life. He was a remarkably centered person who found joy, happiness and pride in the simplest, most important of things; watching his grandchildren grow; playing golf and talking sports with his sons; and sharing the many big and small moments of his life with his wife. He was also particularly close to the Bruce Scolnick family of Basking Ridge, N.J.; and considered them part of his own family.
Dave touched people far beyond the realm of his family with his sense of humor, fairness, honesty and friendship, particularly those he worked with. His career began as a school teacher in Bloomfield, N.J. He later became the recreation director in Bloomfield and then Maplewood N.J.; and his next position, as the township administrator in Maplewood, defined his career. In semi-retirement, he served as the township administrator in Kidder, Pa., and as president and an acting firefighter in the Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Department.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA, 18509-3116; or the Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 554, Lake Harmony, PA, 18624.
