Helen T. Saunders, 75, of West Eighth Street, West Wyoming, died Saturday in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in West Wyoming, she was a daughter of the late Asa and Clara Edith Masters Atherholt. She was a graduate of West Wyoming High School, Class of 1949. Prior to Mrs. Saunders’ retirement, she was employed by Topps Chewing Gum, Duryea, for over 20 years.
She was a member of the Shoemaker Memorial United Methodist Church, West Wyoming, where she was an active member of the administrative council. Mrs. Saunders also served on the church board and was a member of the Women’s Society. She was also active as a Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Saunders was also member of the West Wyoming Hose Co. No. 1, Women’s Auxiliary, and a Girl Scout leader of the West Wyoming Girl Scout Troop.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Eva Wolfinger, Evelyn Nafus, Beatrice Porter, Emma Pearn; and brother Guilford Atherholt.
Surviving are her husband, Donald, of 55 years; sons Bruce, Franklin Township; Ricky, Exeter Township; daughters Helene Lord, Plymouth; Diane McDonald, Franklin Township; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Alice Zurla, Exeter; Alberta Iverson, Exeter; brother Asa Atherholt, West Wyoming; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Metcalfe and Shaver Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with Willard R. Rollins of the Shoemaker Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in the Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shoemaker Memorial United Methodist Church, 265 Birchwood Village, Exeter, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
