Old Forge sweeps Marseco Tourney

OLD FORGE -- Jim DeStefano scored 14 points to lead Old Forge to a 67-39 win over Seton Catholic to claim the Marseco Memorial Tournament championship on Sunday at Old Forge High School.

Jason Bone led the Eagles with nine points.

Pittston Area 57, Wyoming Area 56

Matt Zera (nine points) drained the game-winning 3-pointer with four seconds left to give Pittston Area the comeback win in the consolation final of the Marseco Tournament. Ryan Sutkowski scored 14 points for the Patriots.

Mike Baloga scored 14 points to lead the Warriors, while Dave Hurrey added 10.

Benton 60, MMI 50

Tyler Breznitsky led MMI with 20 points, including three 3-pointers on Saturday. Breznitsky was also named to the all-tournament team of the Benton Tip-Off Tournament.

GIRLS BASKETBALL Old Forge 44, Pittston Area 40

Sarah Fife scored a game-high 22 points to lead Old Forge in the championship game of the Marseco Tournament.

Kristen Baumes led the Patriots with 16 points, while Regina Linskey added 14.

Wyoming Area 47, Seton Catholic 44

Kylie Sheplock led Wyoming Area with 13 points in the consolation final of the Marseco Memorial Tournament.

Renee Fumanti led the Eagles with 14 points.

GAR 65, Tunkhannock 52

Mahogany Spence scored 22 points to lead GAR in Saturday’s contest, while Kaitlyn Swales and Venson Paige each had 13.

Kristen Condeelis led the Tigers with 18 points in the loss and Alisa Shaffer had 10 points.

H.S. WRESTLING Seminary takes third

Wyoming Seminary placed third out of 15 teams at the Michael Caruso Invitational at St. Benedicts Prep School on Saturday by grabbing eight individual place winners led by Joe McMullen who took first at the 215-pound class.

Other finishers for Wyoming Seminary included: Kyle Johnson (second-place, 103 pounds), Nicky Gordon (second, 119), Justin Martinez (second, 140), Mike Landis (second, 275), Adam Healy (third, 135), Patrick Smith (third, 171) and Cullen Eisenberg (fourth, 130).
