WILKES-BARRE: The Leadership Wilkes-Barre Alumni Council and Geisinger Wyoming Valley will honor Larry Newman at Leadership Wilkes-Barre’s annual cocktail party, which will be held on Feb. 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Westmoreland Club. Newman will be recognized for his outstanding contributions to the community. Newman is the vice president of Economic and Community Development for the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry. He oversees the design and implementation of economic and community development initiatives in the Greater Wilkes-Barre area, ranging from economic development marketing to downtown revitalization. Among his many achievements and contributions, he was instrumental in the formation of the Diamond City Partnership, the public-private alliance to revitalize Downtown Wilkes-Barre, and in the planning and implementation of the downtown projects that followed. A graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Newman received a BA in Architecture from Princeton University and a master of Architecture from Harvard University. He resides in Downtown Wilkes-Barre with his wife, Marisue, and their children, Emily, Jackson and Sarah. The event is open to the public and will cost $35 per person. Live entertainment will be provided by Mystique.
