Wyoming/West Wyoming takes title

WYOMING – Kyle Charney pitched four solid innings and Tino Romanelli picked up the save as Wyoming/West Wyoming won the District 16 West Minor League Baseball title with a 5-4 victory over Northwest on Tuesday.

Rocky Rutkoski had two hits and a double play for Wyoming/West Wyoming. Marty Michaels, John Van Scoy, Louis Tzamalas and Zach Scrobola also had hits.

Nicholas Long and Curtis Whitmire had doubles for Northwest. Tyler Kolb and Eric Gurzynski each singled.

JANUZZI’S TOURNAMENT Pittston 9, Swoyersville 2

Evan Hahn hit a two-run homer and a three-run homer to lead Pittston.

Angelo Lussi doubled while Matt Seyer hit two singles at the plate and struck out seven in six innings for the win.

Nick Ostroski and Ryan Heddes were the lone hitters for Swoyersville.

Kingston 25, Northwest 2

Bobby Polachek went 4-for-6 with a homer and earned the win on the mound in a game played Tuesday.

Matt Labashosky also went 4-for-6 for Kingston, while Mike Leonard (3-for-5), Chris McCue (2-for-3) and Kyle Gainard (2-for-3) also had strong games at the plate.

Jeff Nelson homered for Northwest


Aaron Scott hit a bases-loaded triple and finished with four RBI to lead Newport. Ricky Ultsh and Josh Curtin each had a pair of hits.

Tyler Myers struck out five for the win. Kyle Sorber came on to close things out.

Josh Neal led Pittston with two hits.


Tyler Temarantz picked up the win for Kingston in a game played Tuesday.

Bobby Polachek went 3-for-3 with a home run. Kyle Gainard and Mike Leonard had two hits apiece.

West Pittston 10-11 Tournament Kingston 13, Mayflower 6

Patrick Antall hit two doubles to lead Kingston. Kyle Gregory hit a single and a double, Rory Mullin hit two singles and Patrick Lavan hit three singles.

Mike Nardvid earned the win with four strikeouts in five innings.

Zack Faust led Mayflower with two singles.

Plains 21, Avoca/Dupont 5

Dave Mariggi earned the win in three innings, striking out six batters in the effort.

Todd Davis was 4-for-4 for Plains. Tim Pilch and Matt Pickets each had three hits.

Eric Williams had two hits for Plains.

SOFTBALL Cougars win tourney

The 10-and-under state champion Luzerne County Cougars captured the Dunmore Tournament title earlier this week with a 7-2 victory.

Tournament MVP Leah Merrick and Bailey Steininger each homered for the Cougars. Kendall Shinsky, Nicki Butczynski and Rachel Langan all had multiple hits.
