Library staff ready to help with school jitters library news

Back-to-School week is always filled with mixed emotions. The anticipation of new teachers, new friends and new subjects to explore is exciting, but sometimes a little apprehension causes those “night-before” jitters. The staff of the Back Mountain Memorial Library is ready to assist parents with a great selection of “back to school” books and the following activities:

As older brother and sisters begin classes and leave their younger siblings behind, parents may want to register them for Fall toddler and pre-schooler Storyhours. Registrations will be accepted by phone beginning at 9:30 a.m. on September 5. The Toddler Storyhours will be held on Tuesday mornings and the Pre-school Storyhours are held on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Please call the Library at 675-1182 for the exact dates and times of each class.

After the children are settled into their new schedules, parents (and other adults!) may be looking for a chance to relax. A free night of local entertainment, “The Back Mountain Memorial Library’s Open Mic Night” may be just the ticket! This autumn edition of Open Mic Night will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, in the outdoor Antique Barn on the library grounds. This popular event in the past has hosted local songwriters, musicians, poets and a few surprises! Anyone wishing to perform at the Open Mic Night is asked to call the library for further details.

Our Planning Committee has announced the dates for our upcoming Haunted Library which will be held on two consecutive weekends: October 19, 20 and 21 and also on October 26, 27 and 28. The Haunted Library Planning Committee is currently seeking adult volunteers at this time to assist in the preliminary stages of this Halloween event. Any interested adult may call the library to share ideas and join in this annual fun. Registrations for student volunteer/actors/actresses will be announced at a later date.

There are still a few weeks left to visit our Farmer’s Market, held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays through September 15. You will find fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods and gourmet cheese; all great ideas for back-to-school lunches.
