Jerome A. Kolenda, Esq. of Nanticoke passed away, Wednesday afternoon, December 19, 2007, at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Nanticoke, September 30, 1918, he was a son of the late William and Theodosia Makowski Kolenda.
He was a graduate of Kings College and earned his Doctorate of Law from Notre Dame University.
A longtime resident of Nanticoke and Levittown, he worked as a caseworker for the PA Dept. of Welfare.
He was also an insurance broker with his brothers at the Kolenda Agency and volunteered as an AA Sponsor.
As a U.S. Army veteran of World War II he served in the 6th Armored Division and 50th Infantry Division.
Mr. Kolenda was an avid musician, playing the flute, clarinet and piano. Other interests included fishing off the coast of Maine and reading. He was a great mentor to his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Edward, Louis and Tom Kolenda and Joseph Domowicz; sisters Valerie Trinneer and Mary McTague.
Surviving are his sister, Norma Carboni, Fort Worth, Texas; countless nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from Kearney Funeral Home Inc, 22 S. Prospect St. Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church, the Rev. James Nash, officiating. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Sheatown. Friends may call Thursday morning from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
