6 to 12 for attempted murder of landlord

Parking-space argument spurs Ronald Chintala to shoot Jacob Glomb in Dupont.

WILKES-BARRE – A 61-year-old man will serve the next six to 12 years in state prison after trying to kill his landlord during an argument over parking spaces.

Ronald Chintala pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempted murder in the April 16 shooting of Jacob Glomb in Dupont.

Police said Chintala fired a single shot from a .38-caliber revolver into Glomb’s head.

Glomb was close to dying, but survived, Luzerne County Assistant District Attorney Jarrett Ferentino said.

For that, Chintala needed to be punished for his intent and actions, Ferentino told Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Toole on Tuesday.

“His intentions were murder and his actions were murderous,” Ferentino said.

Chintala apologized, wishing he could take back his actions.

His attorney, Joseph Nocito, said his client understands the pain and suffering he caused Glomb and his family.

“He is remorseful and embarrassed by his actions,” Nocito said of Chintala. “He just hopes Jake could have a healthy life.”

Glomb still has permanent injuries, bullet fragments in his head, and difficulty communicating, Ferentino said.

“He’s going to have difficulty with this for the rest of his life,” Ferentino said.

But Glomb was able to tell Ferentino he wanted Chintala to pay for his actions.

Toole ended up imposing a sentence of six to 12 years in state prison on the charge. And that left Glomb happy with the sentence, Ferentino said.

Chintala was taken back to prison after court. He accepted his punishment, Nocito said.

Ferentino said he’s handled loads of criminal cases. This shooting, he said, is as absurd as they come.

“This one is as senseless as any I’ve ever seen,” he said.
