No. 12 Duke dominates Va. Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Chan Black scored 20 points, and No. 12 Duke forced 14 turnovers in the first half of a 72-60 win over Virginia Tech on Friday night.

The Blue Devils (20-7, 9-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) grabbed 13 offensive rebounds on its way to a 36-20 lead at the break, the Hokies’ season low for first-half points.

Lindsay Biggs and Utahya Drye each scored 14 points for Virginia Tech (14-13, 1-11).

Duke used a 12-0 run in the first half to take a 30-15 lead with 6:42 left.

Already without second-leading scorer Andrea Barbour, who missed her third straight game while serving a suspension, the Hokies made just seven of 25 shots in the first half.

The Hokies used a 14-7 run in the second half to pull to 59-50, but Duke pushed the margin back to 15 and its lead was never threatened.

MEN Penn 88, Dartmouth 62

HANOVER, N.H. — Brian Grandieri made 7 of 9 field goal attempts and scored 15 points as Penn beat Dartmouth for the 23rd straight time.

The Quakers (10-15, 5-3 Ivy League), held without a 3-point basket in a two-point win over the Big Green (8-15, 1-8) three weeks ago, made 6-of-8 long-range baskets while taking a 39-30 lead at the half. They hit four more while opening the second half with a 24-8 run to build their lead to 63-38. They went on to lead by as many as 29.

Kevin Egee added 14 points, Andreas Schreiber 12 and Tyler Bernardini 11.

Dartmouth, which has lost its last seven games, got 13 points from DeVon Mosley, 12 from Elgin Fitzgerald and 11 from Alex Barnett.
