Seaman Michael Kohl has graduated U.S. Navy recruit training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. Kohl is enrolled in the Special Operations Navy Diver Program at the Great Lakes Training Command. He will complete his training at the Navy Dive School, Panama City, Fla. A son of Chris and Eileen Kohl, Shavertown, he is a graduate of Lake-Lehman High School, Class of 2004.
Seaman Ryan D. MacMillan has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, MacMillan completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. MacMillan, a son of Lisa J. Tondora, Dallas, is a 2003 graduate of West Side Area Vocational-Technical High School.
Air Force Major J.J. Murphy of Wilkes-Barre is serving in the Horn of Africa as part of the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa. Murphy, a graduate of King’s College, is working as the director for the Personnel Recovery Coordination Cell. Camp Lemonier is strategically located in the country of Djibouti, which neighbors Ethiopia, Somalia and Eritrea in eastern Africa. The Combined Joint Task Force–Horn of Africa’s mission is to prevent conflict, promote regional stability, and protect Coalition interests in order to prevail against extremism.
Spc. Jason Hodges, Clarks Summit, was sworn in to the Pennsylvania Army National Guard at the Wilkes-Barre Armory. Hodges formerly served as an infantryman Bravo Company, 1-160th Infantry Battalion, California Army National Guard. In California, he was activated for state duty containing wildfires and airport security in support of the global war on terrorism.
