GIRLS BASKETBALL PA coach introduced

The Pittston Area girls basketball boosters will introduce the new varsity coach, Amy Hughes, at today’s 7 p.m. meeting in the high school cafeteria.

AF2 Kendrick honored

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s Larry Kendrick has been named the af2 Ironman of the Week for week four. Kendrick had three fumble returns for a touchdown and a receiving touchdown for the Pioneers in a 64-26 win over Peoria.

Awards Rule gets scholarship

Tunkhannock senior Tiffany Rule was recently awarded the PNC Big 33 Academic Scholarship.

Rule, a member of the Tigers’ field hockey team and senior class president also serves as student council secretary and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Golf Alansky sinks ace

Pat Alansky sunk her fourth career hole in one recently at the Wyoming Valley Country Club.

Alansky hit the ace on Wyoming Valley’s 113-yard, par-3 fifth hole. Her partners Carol Decker, Jane Williams, Crystal Hritzik and Becky Kulbaski witnessed the shot.

Emanon opens season

The team of Ted and Bradon Matthews shot a 62 to win the Opening Day Tournament at Emanon Country Club on Sunday.

Guy Fasciana and Len Benfante (62) were second, Alex Brogna and Mike Lazevnick (62) were third and Barry White and Mike LaNunziata (65) were fourth to round out the championship flight teams.

Pair wins tourney

Mike Sokoloski and R.J. Williams shot a 66 to win the Stone Hedge Golf Club Opening Day Tournament.

Steve Sickler and Andrew Zamber (67) were second, John Killany and Stan Phillips (68) were third, and Damian LaRue and Bill Longstreet Jr. were third with a 68 to round out the championship flight.
