Clement D. Shaw, a former resident of New Britain and Middletown, Conn., and North Port, Fla., died May 22, 2008, in Larksville.
He had resided in Pennsylvania since 2004. Born August 30, 1922, he was a son of the late William T. and Helen Shaw. He graduated from New Britain High School and Morse College before serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He later earned a BA from St. Michael’s College, a master of education degree from Hillyer College and a sixth-year certificate in education from the University of Connecticut. He was employed for many years by the Middletown Board of Education and served for 19 years as the assistant superintendent for business affairs. He also served as interim superintendent of schools in 1977 and 1978.
Following his retirement in 1979, Mr. Shaw resided in North Port, Fla. He did volunteer work with the Red Cross, Respite Care and San Pedro Church, and received recognition as a 12-gallon blood donor.
Mr. Shaw was preceded in death in 1994 by his wife, Peg O’Connor Shaw. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, William T. Shaw Jr. and Raymond Shaw.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Margaret Shaw, of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Peggy Shaw and her husband, Joe Rish, of Courtdale; and one sister, Madeline Shaw, of New Britain, Conn. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Anastasia and her husband, Morty Valldejuli, and Cassie, Ezra and Dara Dike; and Tom, Elizabeth, Sarah and Dan Rish; as well as a niece and three nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Michael’s College, One Winooski Park, Colchester, VT 05439. Funeral services will be held in Middletown, Conn., at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the McCune Funeral Service Inc., Mountain Top.
