ASHLEY – The borough’s Memorial Day Association will meet at 7 p.m. today at the American Legion. Donations may be dropped off at the borough building. Plans for the parade will be open for discussion and everyone is urged to attend.

WILKES-BARRE -- The May 18 kayak trip on the Susquehanna River, sponsored by the Cultural Council of Luzerne County for artists, was canceled due to rain but a similar trip will be held this Sunday. The trip launches in Harding and participants will spend three hours on Scoval Island, near Pittston, where they are welcome to paint, sketch and take photographs. LUZERNE – The borough tax office will be closed Saturday and Monday. .

WYOMING – State police at Wyoming will conduct drunken-driving checkpoints and DUI roving patrols this weekend in an effort to combat motorists who drive while under the influence.

In addition, efforts will be made to reduce accidents and injuries by citing drivers who are speeding, driving in a careless manner and who are not properly buckled up.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation driver’s license and photo centers will be closed Saturday and Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
