The Barney Street bridge in South Wilkes-Barre closed Monday, as the $2.45 million repair project got under way. Motorists will be detoured for more than a year. Karen Dussinger, spokeswoman for PennDOT, said the anticipated completion date is July 2009. The bridge repair is part of a project to add flood gates to bridges at Waller, Regent and South Franklin streets.
