Kimberly A. McGovern Pliska, 43, of Manhattan, N.Y., passed away Saturday at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, N.Y.
She was born in Arlington, Va., on Sep. 1, 1965. She was a daughter of James and Corliss Hurrey McGovern.
She was a graduate of Wyoming Area High School. She earned an associate’s degree in business information systems from Penn State University. She also had a bachelor of finance degree from Marymount Manhattan.
She was employed by Doyle, New York, as an auction exhibitor and was also employed by U.B.S., New York.
She was a member of Our Lady of Good Council Church, New York, N.Y. She was also a member of the Penn State Alumni Association and the Marymount Manhattan Alumni Association. She was a member of the O.D.K. Honor Society and the Beta Upsilon, both of Marymount Manhattan.
She was involved with New York Cares, and volunteered within the New York City Public School System and at the New York City Food Bank.
Surviving is her husband of 18 years, Kenneth Pliska, at home; parents James and Corliss McGovern, West Pittston; brother James McGovern and wife Bonita, Plains; Godchildren Matthew McGovern and Julia Pliska; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Leo’s/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m., and Thursday, from 8 to 9 a.m.
