HAZLE TWP. – An 82-year-old woman who state police at Hazleton charged in a fatal vehicle crash waived her right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Agnes S. Yencho, of Oneida, waived charges of homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, careless driving resulting in death and six traffic offenses to Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas, according to court records.
She had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Thursday before District Judge Thomas Sharkey in Hazle Township.
State police at Hazleton charged Yencho with turning into the path of a motorcycle driven by Frank J. Valvano, 58, of Tunkhannock, on Interstate 81 on April 26, according to the criminal complaint.
Valvano died at the scene, police said.
Police said in arrest records that Yencho was attempting to use an emergency cross-over lane to turn around on the highway.
WILKES-BARRE – Two men charged by Kingston police with assaulting a man waived their right to a preliminary hearing in Central Court on Monday, according to court records.
Ronnie Ray Blight, 21, of Arch Street, Edwardsville, and Shaun Anthony Baker, 20, of Kingston, waived charges of simple assault, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and an alcohol violation to Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas. Blight also waived a burglary charge to county court.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Kingston police:
Shawn Gilbert told police he was assaulted by two men, later identified as Blight and Baker, at Market Street and Wyoming Avenue at about 5:40 a.m. July 19.
Gilbert claimed Blight and Baker smashed a cell phone and stole his keys to his apartment on Wyoming Avenue. Gilbert told police after he was assaulted, he walked to his apartment and saw an air conditioner being pushed out a window and Blight and Baker leaving his apartment, according to the criminal complaint.
