Sophie Moyer, formerly of Edwardsville, celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends at Golden-Living East Mountain on Nov. 6.
Attending the gathering were: Stan Motyka, nephew; Ginny Motyka; Raymond Motyka, nephew; Pat Motyka; Stan and Susie Motyka; and Stanley Davis.
Sophie was a homemaker, wife, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt to her family members. After being widowed, she spent time working for families in their homes. She lived through the Depression years and saw many changes in her lifetime, which now includes the election of the first African American President of the United States.
She is a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Larksville, and always enjoyed the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved to cook.
Sophie has three grandchildren: Candace, Linda and Bob; and two great-grandchildren.
