PLAINS TWP. – All outpatient clinics operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center will be closed on Friday. Patients will be notified and rescheduled for all appointments.

President Bush issued an executive order declaring Dec. 26 as a federal holiday. The medical center and emergency room will be open as usual, for patients with medical emergencies. Patients will be notified and rescheduled for all appointments.

KINGSTON – Holiday hours for administrative offices are: Dec. 24, 26, 31 and Jan. 2, 8:30 a.m.-noon; Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, closed.

Garbage collection: Dec. 24, regular schedule; Dec. 25, no pickup; Dec. 26, Thursday’s trash; Dec. 29, Friday’s trash; Dec. 31, Thursday’s trash; and Jan. 1, no collection. The regular schedule will resume Jan. 2.

PITTSTON TWP. – The last day for payment of county and municipal taxes is Dec. 31, according to tax collector Rita Timonte. Office hours are 5:30-8 p.m. Monday.

Residents who request a receipt should send a self-addressed, stamped envelope. No personal checks will be accepted.

AVOCA – Due to the holidays, garbage will be collected on Fridays, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

LUZERNE – Because of the holiday, the borough office will be closed on Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1. The office closes at noon on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. Hours on Jan. 2 are 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

PITTSTON – City office hours are: Dec. 24, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Dec. 31 and Jan. 2, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The office is closed on Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.
