George S. Trevethan, 82, of Wilkes-Barre, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Saturday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
He was born November 28, 1926, in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Ann Trevethan Leslie and Harold Trevethan. He attended Coughlin High School and was a Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS Yosemite. Mr. Trevethan was employed for Simpson Building Supply and Mid State Lumber, both of Kingston. He was a member of the former Parsons American Legion Post 199, where he served as past commander and treasurer. An avid golfer, he was a member at the Hollenback Golf Course.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, George R. Trevethan Jr.; sisters Betty Williams and Marie Reese.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the physicians, nurses and staff of Geisinger Medical Center, Fifth Floor East, for the kindness and loving care that George received.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Long, with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 12, 2009; sons George R. Trevethan and his wife, Linda, Warrior Run; Thomas Trevethan, Wilkes-Barre; David Trevethan and his wife, Sandra, York; grandchildren Jenifer Yenchik, Nicole McNeill, Jason Trevethan, Eric Trevethan, Deanna Trevethan; great-grandchildren Nicole Trevethan, Joseph George Yenchik, Zachary and Gabrielle McNeill; numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Services will be conducted by Pastor Chad Stoecker, First Assembly of God Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call today, from 5 to 8 p.m.
