SWOYERSVILLE – The 2009 county/borough taxes will be issued the first week of March.
The tax office will reopen on Tuesday evening, March 3.
Hours for collection during the rebate period are 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturdays at the borough building, 675 Main St., Swoyersville.
Appointments can be requested by calling 570-718-1999 and leaving a message. When paying by mail and requesting a receipt, please send the complete tax bill along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Home collections are available.
WILKES-BARRE – Graduates of Wilkes-Barre Area Vo-Tect Practical Nursing Program who are interested in attending the 50-year Reunion Party to be held in June should contact the school at 822-6539.

NANTICOKE – The 2009 municipal property taxes were issued.
The rebate period will end on Friday, April 10. Face period ends on Monday, June 8. Penalty phase ends on Dec. 15, which is the last day to pay taxes at the city building.
Anyone not receiving his or her property tax statement is requested to contact the tax office. It is the property owner’s responsibility to promptly forward their tax statements to their respective mortgage company.
When remitting payment by mail, if a receipt is requested, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope. All residents are reminded tax payments are not accepted by postmark. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Anyone needing an appointment or assistance is asked to call the tax office at 735-2800.
LUZERNE – The 2009 county/municipal and municipal per capita taxes were recently issued.
The county property taxes are set at 4.5347 mills; the municipal property taxes are set at 1.4524 mills. The municipal per capita taxes are set at $5 per resident over 18 years of age through 65.
The rebate period for the property taxes is from Feb. 16 through April 16. Face period for taxes will run from April 17 through June 17 and the penalty period from June 18 through Dec. 31 – the final due date.
Office hours during the rebate period are 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays; 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays After the rebate period ends, office hours are 6 to 7 p.m. Monday and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. Special arrangements for pickup of taxes can be mailed if the office hours are not convenient.
The property tax bills will be issued in a two-part copy; the original copy will be retained by the tax collector, while the homeowner will keep the second copy for their records. If taxes are paid by mail, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope along with the entire tax bill if a receipt is requested.
Property owners with escrow accounts should promptly forward their tax bills to their financial institutions for payment. The original bill should accompany all escrow payments to the tax collector. Anyone who does not receive their property tax bills by Feb. 28 should contact John Lohman at 288-9640.
The local service tax bills have been sent to all Luzerne merchants last month. The first quarter payments are due by April 30. Please contact the tax collector if you did not receive any LST forms.
DUPONT – Borough council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday to adopt a resolution approving the detour route for the construction project on Interstate 81, Lidy Road (section 255).
The detour will be for residents and vehicle traffic for the upper section of Lidy Road beyond the bridges and will be Lidy Road to Gedrich Street for approximately 250 feet. Motorist should bear left approximately 750 feet to Concorde Drive and then to Navy Way to Terminal Road to Route 315. Lidy Road will be open for pedestrian traffic.
EXETER – The 2009 county/municipal property tax bills have been mailed.
If home or land owners did not receive their bills, calls should be made to 655-5269. The rebate amount is due until April 5.
If paying by mail and requesting a receipt, send the entire bill and a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
During the rebate period, collections will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 10 a.m. to n oon Saturday at 35 Thomas St., Exeter.
Garbage stickers are also on sale at the borough building Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Stickers are $100 from Jan. 2 to Feb. 28 for senior citizens who are 63 years old by March 31. From March 1 to 31, stickers will be $120. Residents who are younger than 63 by March 31 can purchase their stickers for $140 from Jan. 2 to Feb 28.; from March 1 to 31, they will be $170.
Beginning April 1, the price will be $250 plus costs for everyone. No exceptions. There will not be any extension. It is mandatory to buy a garbage sticker in the borough.
All residents are reminded that Feb. 28 is the deadline to get the rebate for your garbage sticker. Please get your sticker by Friday, Feb. 27 because there are no Saturday hours.
