Roberta R. Schweinle, 90, of Helcha Street, Bloomsburg, died at her home early Monday morning, June 22, 2009.
She was born Nov. 15, 1918 in Wyoming, Pa. and was a daughter of the late Edwin R. (a barber in Dallas for half a century) and Catherine McGinley VanCampen.
Roberta was one of the earliest employees of the former Commonwealth Telephone Co., in Dallas, and was instrumental in the company’s growth. She retired in 1965 as an administrative assistant to the Accounting Department.
She was a member of St. Columba Roman Catholic Church of Bloomsburg.
Roberta travelled extensively, both nationally and internationally, and lived in Alaska and the Philippines. Her interests were bowling, target shooting, dancing, entertaining, and especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Roberta was very independent and lived alone up to her death. She was noted for her unique sense of humor and her generosity.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Schweinle, who died in 2001; a son, Brent, who died in 1992; two sisters, Dorothy VanCampen, Maydell Davis; and a brother, Earl VanCampen.
She is survived by a son, Keith P. Yeisley, Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Saundra Kaye Hall and her husband, Richard, Bloomsburg; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
At Roberta’s request, there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 11 a.m. from the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick, with the Rev. Paul Fisher officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick. Contributions in her memory may be made to Geisinger Hospice, 100 Academy Ave., Danville, Pa. 17821.
