Donna Farrell, senior vice president, was recently named regional manager for the bank’s branches in Northeastern Pennsylvania. In this position, the Dallas resident will be responsible for driving continued growth and customer satisfaction for the bank’s consumers and business customers.


The depot recently hired two new employees.

C. Malachi D. Scott, of Parsons, is chief of the depot’s Utilities and Grounds Division, Public Works Directorate. In this position, he supervises 37 people who work on excavating, lawn care, snow removal, carpentry, plumbing, utilities repair, and lock and door repair. Scott holds a bachelor’s degree in military studies, with a concentration in counterterrorism and psychology, from the American Military Institute.

Jay Wilson, of Tobyhanna, is chief of the depot’s Component Painting Branch, Systems Integration and Support Directorate. In this position, he supervises 24 people who service a variety of components from branches throughout the depot.


The local university recently added two new members to its staff.

Vernon B. Harper, Jr., Ph.D. is associate provost. In this position, he is responsible for coordinating the academic assessment and institutional effectiveness efforts of the university. He will also lead and facilitate the university’s assessment committee and oversee a process for documenting and archiving assessment information.

Harper holds a doctorate in human communication from Howard University, a master’s degree in communication from West Chester University, and a bachelor’s degree in communication from Pennsylvania State University.

Jeff Talarigo, award-winning novelist, recently joined the creative writing faculty at the university. Talarigo is the author of “The Pearl Diver;” a novel that was awarded the American Academy of Arts and Letters Rosenthal Award and named a Kiriyama Prize notable book.

Talarigo’s second novel, “The Ginseng Hunter,” was placed on the American Library Association’s Notable Book List of 2009.


Dempsey Uniform and Linen was recently recognized as The Best Green Business of the Year Award by the Northeast Pennsylvania Business Journal and the planners of the World Green Energy Symposium. The local company was honored for its encouragement of pro-environment practices in its community and supply chain as well as its own operation.

Michael McDermott, sandblast leader in Tobyhanna Army Depot’s Systems Integration and Support Directorate, was recently awarded the Tobyhanna Employee of the Quarter Award for the second quarter of the 2009 fiscal year. McDermott was honored for his dedication, training skills, and ’can-do’ attitude, which helps raise morale and increases production.
