Tunkhannock wins, heads to WVC team playoffs

TUNKHANNOCK – Tunkhannock wrapped up a spot in the Wyoming Valley Conference team playoffs with a 173-179 win over Wyoming Area on Tuesday in golf action at Stonehedge Country Club (par 36).

The Tigers’ Adam Charles carded 39 to claim medalist honors, while Kyle Christy (44), Matt Millan (45) and Mason Kenia (45) rounded out the scoring for the team, which improves to 8-2.

For the Warriors, Vicky Petrosky led the way with 41. She was followed by Dan Valenti’s 44, Anthony Bellino’s 45 and Nick Rydzewski’s 49.

The Tigers earn the bid for the league playoffs from the East Division by holding the tiebreaker with Pittston Area, which also finished the season at 8-2.

Also in the league playoffs, which will be held Sept. 30 at Fox Hill Country Club, are Holy Redeemer (9-1) from the Central Division and Dallas (10-0) from the North Division.

The golf postseason begins on Monday with the WVC Pre-District Tournament at Fox Hill Country Club. The District 2 Tournament is slated for Oct. 5 at Elmhurst County Club and the D2 Team Championship is scheduled for Oct. 9 at Fox Hill.

Crestwood 155, MMI 178

Eric Jesikiewicz earned medalist honors shooting 36 at the par-35 Valley Country Club to lead the Comets, who improved to 8-1 and can wrap up the South Division title with a win today against Hazleton Area.

Matt Kachurak fired 37 for the Comets, while Jake Popowycz and Matt Whotherspoon netted 41s.

Ryan Forte’s 39 paced the Preppers, while Connor McNelis (44), Jared Hinkle (46) and Casey McCoy (49) also scored.

Dallas 163, Wyoming Seminary 180

With a score of 39, Tony Bevevino received medalist honors while leading Dallas to victory on a par-36 at Irem Temple Golf Course. Austin Smith went for a round of 40 with Andrew McCabe shooting a 41. Chris Ellis and Mike Jayne both scored 43s.

Ron Rose carded a round of 42 for Wyoming Seminary. Evan Leas (43) and Garrett Koenecke (47) were other leading scorers for the Blue Knights.
