Pairings and dates set for District 2 field hockey tournaments

WILKES-BARRE – The state field hockey playoffs don’t begin for a little more than two weeks. But two tournaments featuring some of the best the state has to offer get under way in just a few days.

Sixteen teams from the Wyoming Valley Conference – including defending Class 2A state champion Wyoming Seminary – will take part in the District 2 playoffs, which begin next week.

The 10-team Class 2A tournament will get started Tuesday with a pair of opening-round games. The six-team Class 3A tourney begins Wednesday with two quarterfinal games.

The Class 3A championship game is scheduled for Nov. 4, while the Class 2A title game is set for Nov. 5. The two champions advance to the PIAA state playoffs, which begin Nov. 10.

The three WVC division champions – Wyoming Seminary, Nanticoke and Meyers – will play their first district playoff game in the Class 2A quarterfinals.

All games are played at the higher seeded team until the finals, which will be played at neutral sites. The seeds are based on regular-season records in the WVC. There is no admission charge for opening round, quarterfinal or semifinal games. Tickets for the championship games are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The tournament pairings were announced during seeding meeting Thursday night. Here’s a look at the pairings in the respective classifications:
