Jacob F. Serfass Jr.

Jacob F. Serfass Jr., 68, a resident of Thornhurst, died Saturday morning in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

His wife of 43 years was the former Sharon E. Daubert.

Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Jacob F. Sr. and Sally Bollinger Serfass. He attended Palmerton High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He was a Pennsylvania State Game Warden for more than 25 years.

He was a member of the Thornhurst Volunteer Fire Company, serving as assistant chief and treasurer. He was a charter member of the Thornhurst Ambulance Squad and he taught CPR and first aid courses.

He and his wife would volunteer their time with the Game Commission, traveling and teaching children hunter safety courses.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved the outdoors, hunting and making sure that the sport of hunting was respected and fun for those involved.

He was a man who could fix anything and was not afraid of a challenge. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Serfass.

Surviving are a daughter, Jan Kieffer, and husband William, Milton, Pa.; son Daniel Serfass, Thornhurst; grandchildren Daniel Jacob Serfass, Lindsey Rose Kieffer and William Thompson Linn Kieffer III; sisters Elizabeth Trexler, Allentown; Wilma Mohr, Allentown; Emma Fink, Bowmanstown; Ruth Ann Hausman, Slatington; Dolores Serfass, Slatington; brothers Walter Serfass, Bowmanstown; Albert Serfass, Palmerton; several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jacob’s Life will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Home, 3 First Street, Spring Brook Township, by Timothy M. Kramer, funeral celebrant.

Friends may call on Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Thornhurst Volunteer Fire Company, 125 River Road, Thornhurst, PA 18424.
