Slightly Read Bookshop at library to re-open Jan. 5

With just a few days remaining before we celebrate the beginning of 2009, the board of directors and staff of the Back Mountain Memorial Library would like to wish everyone a very happy and healthy New Year. And, of course, we hope you will include “visiting the library” on your list of New Years’ resolutions!

Our Slightly Read Bookshop will re-open on January 5, just in time for you to stock up on your winter reading titles. The Bookshop will now be open its regular hours, which are as follows: from 1 to 7 p.m. on Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Plan on visiting soon… it’s a pleasant (and warm) way to spend a winter afternoon.

As you begin to pack away your winter holiday decorations in the next few weeks and happen to come across any antique or heirloom holiday decorations you may be ready to part with, keep in mind that the Nearly Old Shoppe of our annual auction would love to have them. The committee is currently requesting any vintage holiday things to sell in its Grandma’s Attic. You may donate these items to the library with boxes clearly marked “For Nearly Olde.”

Please remember that the library CANNOT accept any used television sets due to the change-over to digital television broadcasting. We will not be able to sell them at our annual auction and would incur a substantial cost to dispose of them. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

A reminder to parents and grandparents that the registration date for the winter/spring story times for 2009 will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 7. You may call the library at 675-1182 beginning at 9:30 a.m. on that day to register your child. The story hours will be as follows: Toddler Story Time for 2-year-olds will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Mother Goose on the Loose will be held from 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesdays, 3 to 5-year-old Story Hour will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. or from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays or from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursdays. Story Times will begin the week of February 1 and end the week of April 5.

A Parent/Child workshop will also be offered in the spring of 2009. This workshop is a four-week program for children 1 to 3 years of age. A resource professional will be present to answer parenting questions while the children play and are introduced to a short Story Time. This workshop will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, April 14, 21, 28 and May 5.
