ICE HOCKEY Sem finishes 2nd

The Wyoming Seminary ice hockey team earned second place in a 20-team field at 30th Annual Northwood Invitational in Lake Placid, N.Y.

In the first game, Sem squared off against Boston Advantage AAA and battled to a 5-4 win. Sem then faced North County Community College, earning a 7-1 victory. In game three of preliminary play, Sem defeated the Brewster Bulldogs of the Empire Junior Hockey League, 6-3. The Knights next defeated Maine’s Bridgton Academy, 2-0. In the semifinals, Sem defeated the Boston Jr. Rangers AAA team, 3-2. This put Sem into the gold medal game against the host, Northwood School Junior A. Sem struggled on the penalty-kill against Northwood, giving up 3 power-play goals en route to a 1-5 loss.

Seniors Kazuma Iwamoto (2g, 10a), Kris Arvanitakis (7g, 3a) and DJ Brown (6g, 2a) led the way offensively, with Mac McMurchpy (2g, 4a), Jason Cholish (2g, 1a), Domenic Colati (1g, 2a), Jakub Husek (1g, 1a), Connor McRae (1g) and Tim Hanlon (1a) also contributing. The defense was led by Tyler Skroski (4a), Lukas Bilek (2a), Jed Rusk (1a) and Joey Furgele (1a). Senior goaltender David Aman stopped 118 out of 133 shots he faced, earning five wins.

GYMNASTICS Skammer places first

Sara Skammer recently placed first in All-Around, Level 10, at the Parkettes Invitational Gymnastics meet held in Allentown Pa. with a score of 36.975. Sara also received individual silver medals on uneven bars and beam. Also she received a 3rd place medal on floor exercise with a score of 9.35.Sara is a member of United Sports Academy in Dunmore Pa. and resides in Dallas.
