Misericordia University softball standout Katie Eiden has been named the Freedom Conference Pitcher of the Week.
A junior pitcher, Eiden was 2-0 with a 0.00 earned run average while helping the Cougars secure the top seed in the upcoming Freedom Conference playoffs.
She tossed a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in a win at Manhattanville and added 10 strikeouts in a three-hitter against Arcadia.
She held opposing batters to a .122 batting average and allowed just one unearned run in 14 innings.
Misericordia is 24-12 and will host the King’s/Wilkes winner in the first round of the Freedom Championships Friday at 11 a.m.
King’s College softball standout Becky Loring was been named the Freedom Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Loring enjoyed a big week for King’s, helping the Monarchs go 4-0 and garnering an important sweep over FDU-Florham that clinched the fifth and final Freedom Conference playoff berth.
In a doubleheader sweep of Baptist Bible, Loring batted a combined 5-for-7 with two triples, a home run, five RBI and scored two runs. In the sweep of FDU-Florham, she was 6-for-6 with a double, two RBI and three runs.
For the week, Loring batted .786 (11-14) with nine RBI, one double, two triples, one home run and seven runs scored.
For the year, she is hitting .422 (35-83) with four doubles, two home runs, two triples, 25 RBI and has scored 21 runs.
Loring and her King’s teammates will open the Freedom Conference Tournament at 4 p.m. today at Wilkes with the winner advancing to Friday’s tournament.
