Jean E. Smith, 75, of Church Road, Mountain Top, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
Born in Mountain Top, on April 6, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Franklin and Catherine Buff.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Eberhard Faber, Mountain Top. Jean was a member of St. Martins in the Field Church, Nuangola, as well as the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 781 and Rice Township Fire Department. She was a lifelong resident of Rice Township.
Jean was well known for her baking and sense of humor, but mostly for being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in 2008; and her sister, Madeline Buff.
Surviving are her sons, Arthur J. Smith and his wife, Michelle, Wapwallopen; Robert G. Smith and his wife, Terese, Mountain Top; grandchildren Aubrey, Ethan, Michael and Mathew Smith; brothers Frank Buff, Conway S.C.; Chester Buff, Mountain Top; sisters Lois Cragle, Nina Pawlowski and Margaret Buff, all of Mountain Top, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. from the McCune Funeral Home, 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top. Interment will follow in the Albert Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mountain Top Area Ambulance Association.
