Top pitching match goes to Shuleski

WILKES-BARRE — In a matchup of two of the Wyoming Valley Conference’s top pitchers, Holy Redeemer’s Justin Shuleski outdueled Berwick’s Zach Lazar, and the Royals held on for a 6-5 win on Monday.

Shuleski improved to 5-0 on the season, giving up just one earned run and striking out six. Steve Ruch had two hits and an RBI to lead the Royals (6-4). Matt Bustin drove in two runs and Ted Ritsick hit a solo shot.

Lazar struck out six on the mound for Berwick (6-4), which got two hits each from A.J. Mihaly and Brandon Michael. Derek Watts had a double and two RBI.

Cody Plesnar (3-for-3) hit two doubles and drove in three runs to fuel Dallas (7-3), which snapped the Patriots’ six-game winning streak with a decisive five-inning win.

Marc Noyalis (3-for-4, triple, three RBI), Josh Shaver (3-for-4, two RBI) and Matt Shaver (2-for-4, triple) all had big days at the plate, while Hunter Englehart drove in two runs and struck out seven for the win on the mound.

Carmen LoPresto went 2-for-2 with a double for the Patriots (8-2).

Andrew Tressa finished the day 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI to lead a 14-hit attack for the Spartans (8-2). Ken Durling and Tim Kuscavage both drove in two runs apiece, while Kris Moules struck out nine in the complete-game victory.
