Jean Welch, of Harveys Lake, formerly of Hanover Township, was taken peacefully by the Lord on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born Nov. 2, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Sallitt Ayoub. She attended Meyers High School and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Everyone knew her for her hospitality and loving ways.
She was a member of Saint Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Ayoub, Shirley Kovalchik.
Jean and her husband, Willard, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 6, 2008.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Jeffrey and his wife, Sandra Welch, of Ellicott City, Md.; Scott and his wife, Deana Welch, of Macungie, Pa.; daughter Tammy and husband, David Simpson, Dallas, Pa.; grandchildren David and Dalton Simpson, Katrina Welch; sisters Betty Chiavacci, Exeter; Mary Ann Keller, Wilkes-Barre; brother Sam Ayoub, Phillipsburg, N.J.; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Mamary-Durkin Funeral Services, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. Services will be at 11:30 in St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre.
Interment in the parish cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call on Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Those who desire may give memorial contributions to St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 905 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre.
