Aleksander Ruskoski, son of James and Lynne Ruskoski, Mountain Top, won first place in the Scranton Diocese and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Spelling Bee. Twenty students participated in the competition that was held at Wyoming Area Catholic School. Ruskoski is a sixth-grade student at St. Nicholas/St. Mary’s School. He was also recently honored at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children held by The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) and hosted by Bucknell University. His award was based on an exceptional performance on a rigorous, above-grade-level test.

Lee Molitoris, Plains Township, and Neil O’Donnell, Wilkes-Barre, seniors at Wyoming Seminary, received the Bishop’s 2009 Annual Youth Award from the Diocese of Scranton. The award recognizes their service to their parish and parish programs and commends them for their leadership.

Michelle Swiatek, class valedictorian of Misericordia University, was recognized for her academic accomplishments during the annual Honors Award Banquet at the Banks Student Life Center. Swiatek graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in health science and a Master of Science degree in physical therapy. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Swiatek, Nanticoke.
