Kevin J. Kane, of Wilkes-Barre, was recently elected president of the board of directors at the local nonprofit agency that provides therapy to children with disabilities and preschool education to children of all abilities. Kane has been a member of the agency’s board for 15 years. He will serve a two-year term as president.


Raymond A. Mazzarella, of Ashley, recently joined the firm as a full-time human resources management consultant. He will be responsible for fulfilling human resources compliance requirements and implementing effective personnel policies. Mazzarella has more than 30 years of experience in human resources and holds a bachelor’s degree in business and economics from King’s College.


Chad Plummer, of Effort, was recently hired as a mortgage originator at the local bank. He will be responsible for new mortgage loans as well as building new relationships with customers and community awareness. The retired NFL player is an experienced mortgage broker and holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Cincinnati. He also graduated from the Bankers School in Florida as a mortgage broker.


Patrick J. O’Connor, a Kingston native, was recently elected to serve as chairman of the school’s board of trustees. O’Connor, an accomplished trial lawyer, earned his bachelor of arts degree from King’s College and his juris doctor degree from the Villanova School of Law. He served on the Temple board from 1971-1984 and returned in 2001. His educational affiliations include serving as a current member and former chairman of the board of consultors for the Villanova University School of Law and as a member of the board of directors at King’s College.


Chef Sal Fasano was recently hired at the casino’s Italian eatery, La Sorelle Cucina. Born and raised in Naples, Italy, Chef Fasano is a 20 year veteran of the restaurant industry and specializes in traditional Northern Italian fare including specialty breads, pastas, desserts and pastries.


Mike Dziak, president/CEO, Earth Conservancy; Mike Pacyna, senior vice president, PNC Bank and Mark Sincavage, president, SIDE Corporation and Sincavage Corporation, all current board members at the economic development marketing organization, were recently nominated to serve another three-year term.


Christina Freeman was recently hired as salon manager for the salon and beauty store that is currently being built in the Arena Hub Plaza. The store will open sometime in late July or early August.


Valley Distributing and Storage Company was recently awarded a Certificate of Excellence in food safety and Recognition of Superior Performance in food safety from The Food Safety Consultants, ASI. The company, a third party logistics provider with locations in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, was honored for its consistency in keeping its conditions in food storage warehouses in regulation and following practices of food safety management.

Dorothy Leptuck, PCA, was recently named Personal Care Aide of the Year for United Methodist Homes’ Wesley Village at its 2009 nursing awards dinner. Selected for the honor by residents and her co-workers on all three shifts, Leptuck was honored for being attentive to the needs of her residents, coworkers and supervisors alike.

Karl E. Kauffman, project manager, and David A. Rodney, CPE, project estimator, both employees of The Quandel Group, Inc., recently earned their certifications as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professionals. LEED Professional Accreditation provides verification of individual expertise in the principles of green building design, construction and operation.
