Alvin and Libby Whisenhunt, Plymouth, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary yesterday. They were married June 27, 1959, in the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Plymouth, by the late Rev. E.D. Hettinger.
The couple was married in a double wedding ceremony with Libby’s cousin, Beth Lowe Jabyac and the late Nelson Lowe.
Attendants were Beth Lowe Jabyac, maid of honor; the late Joan Eckhart and the late Jeanne Schoonover, bridesmaids; the late Nelson Lowe, best man; the late Gene Lutinski and the late Tom Price, cousin of the bride, groomsmen.
Mrs. Whisenhunt is the former Libby Reese, daughter of the late John E. and Margaret Reese. She has been employed by K-Mart in Edwardsville for the last 29 years.
Mr. Whisenhunt, son of the late Garrison and Etta Whisenhunt, has been the owner/operator of Al’s Barber Shop in Plymouth for 47 years.
Alvin and Libby are parents of two children: Jack, Telford; and Janice, married to Gerry Zimmer, Red Lion.
The occasion was celebrated with a dinner and a party for family and friends at the Shawnee Room in Plymouth. Relatives from across the country, from New Jersey to California, attended the festivities.
