The Pioneers learned which af2 team they will be playing as the American Conference playoffs get under way Saturday.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (13-3), the Eastern Division champions, will face Albany (7-9) at 7 p.m. at the Wachovia Arena in the first round.
Both teams compete in the same division and have met three times already this season with the Pioneers winning all three and outscoring the Firebirds by a cumulative score of 189-94, including a 49-40 win two weeks ago.
The Florida Firecats defeated Kentucky, 67-39 on Saturday to clinch the seventh seed for the American Conference playoff tournament, seemingly ending Albany’s season due to Florida (7-9) winning the head-to-head tie-breaker.
But when the playoff bracket was released on Monday, Florida was not mentioned because of failure to pay league dues throughout the season. It is also speculated that the Firecats will not return to their home in South Florida for next season.
Florida is the only team in either conference to finish in the top eight in the conference and not be included in the playoffs.
The playoff schedule begins on Friday with an American Conference game pitting No. 7 Manchester (7-9) traveling to play second-seeded Iowa (12-4) at 8:05 p.m.
The rest of the American Conference games, which will be played Saturday, are No. 5 Kentucky (10-6) at No. 4 South Georgia (11-5) at 7:30 p.m. and No. 6 Green Bay (10-6) at No. 3 Tennessee Valley (11-5) at 8:30 p.m.
In the National Conference, Spokane (15-1) is the top seed and will host Stockton (6-10) at 10 p.m. Saturday, while second-seeded Tulsa (13-3) will host No. 7 Oklahoma City (7-9) at 8:05 p.m.
The other two matchups in the National Conference are No. 6 Rio Grande Valley (9-7) at No. 3 Bossier-Shreveport (11-5), 8 p.m. and No. 5 Arkansas (11-5) at No. 4 Boise (12-4), 9:10 p.m.
