WILKES-BARRE – Life is good for the workers at AutoGraphix. Some days they get to manhandle ESPN broadcaster Dick Vitale, Penn State football players or NFL hall of famer Thurman Thomas. This week it’s been scantily clad Lingerie Football League women.
“I love my job,” said Albert Martino, Internet marketing director for the Waller Street company that includes 10 affiliated Web-based companies including LifeSizeCustomCutouts.com, WetPaintTShirts.com and JigSawPuzzleMe.com.
Started in 2003 by Steve Taren, the company took off in 2005 when it began producing life-size cardboard cutouts of just about anything or anyone. They’re popular for graduations, anniversaries, weddings and for marketing and advertising purposes, he said. The U.S. Army has used them for recruiting. He continues to make the cardboard cutouts for sports teams, marketing companies and private individuals.
Word of mouth and intensive Web marketing has created enough business for the company that it employs 10 full-timers. The upstart Lingerie Football League, which features women models playing seven-on-seven tackle football, learned of the company and contacted AutoGraphix to see if it could create life-size vinyl wall decals of the league’s players.
The company offered a quote and the league accepted making AutoGraphix the exclusive producer of the items. The first batch of nearly 1,000 orders was produced this week and they’ll be available on the LFL’s Web site around the time the league kicks off next Friday.
The vinyl wall decals will be the first made by the company on this scale. Martino expects them to be popular with men, especially those of college age. And he noted the vinyl decals use “a very simple peel-and-stick concept” and they’re perfect for dorm rooms or apartments because they can be easily removed without damaging walls.
Martino is rooting for the league’s success. “It’s a mutual growth concept,” he said. “If they do well, that means more business for us. I encourage everyone to watch the games.”
Games will be available on pay-per-view but if you want to catch one in person, the Philadelphia Passion play at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, N.J. But the schedule is limited. There are 10 teams in the league, five in each conference. And each team plays only two home games and two road games. Only one league game is played each Friday over a 20-week span.
