Raymond C. (Terrana) Turoni, 77, of Wyoming, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2009, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Pittston, on July 2, 1932, he was a son of the late Raymond Turoni and Maria LoBrutto Turoni. Ray was fondly referred to as “Chirpy.”
He was a graduate of Pittston High School and served with the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.
He was employed as a manager with American Auto, Pittston, for many years and later as an insurance agent for Prudential until his retirement.
He was a member of the Italian Christian Church, Pittston, for 50 years. He was also a member of the Pittston YMCA.
His true joys were gathering at the family table with friends and family.
Ray was a loving and devoted husband, father and papa. His two granddaughters were his pride and joy. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
He was preceded in death by sisters Fidella Guiliano and Mary Ann Granteed, and brother Jerome Terrana.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Rose Macareo Turoni; daughter Robin Shinert, Wyoming; granddaughters Alexandra and Meghan Shinert; sisters Connie Dellaria, Trenton, N.J.; Lucy Calabrese, Trenton, N.J.; Rose Migliosi, West Pittston; Angela Gill, Pittston; brother Sam (Sonny) Turoni, Exeter; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at 10 a.m. from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 802 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with a eulogy at 10:30 a.m. to be given by the Rev. Peter Caprari. Religious service will be 11 a.m. in the Italian Christian Church, Lagrange Street, Pittston. Brother Peter Sellani will officiate. Friends may call today, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Denison Mausoleum, Swoyersville.
