Vicky Petrosky climbed through the ranks at the PIAA golf championships Tuesday until the Wyoming Area junior earned herself a medal.
After starting the day tied for 18th in the 24-player field, Petrosky made the necessary climb into the top 10 to receive a medal.
Petrosky’s 5-over-par, 77 was the fifth-best score of the day and lifted her into a tie for ninth place. She had a birdie-2 on the fifth hole.
Petrosky lowered her score by nine shots from Monday’s 86 at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.
Nicholas Reach, another underclassman from District 2, also rallied to earn a medal.
The Scranton Prep junior had the best round Tuesday in the boys tournament, shooting 2-under-par, 69 to finish tied for third at 146. He started the day in a tie for 23rd after shooting 77 Monday.
Holy Redeemer’s Mike Napkori finished tied for 30th with a 79 on Monday and a 74 Tuesday for a total score of 153.
North Pocono’s Ellen Ceresko, like Reach a District 2 champion, also earned a medal. She finished eighth with a round of 82 and a two-day total of 162.
Scranton Prep finished last among the four finalists in the team competitions for both boys and girls.
