The 77th annual Wilkes Open will be held today at Wilkes University’s Marts Center with more than 300 wrestlers from more than 30 colleges already entered into the event.
Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m. at the gym with an approximate time for the finals set to take place in the late afternoon or early evening. Over a dozen Division I schools have entered into the event.
The Colonels might not be a strong favorite to claim the overall team title, but they enter with an 11-1 dual meet record and are currently ranked 18th in the country.
Heavyweight senior Andrew Feldman is currently ranked eighth in Division III, while senior Zach Pizarro (184 pounds) is ranked ninth and Frank Heffernan, a senior 174-pounder, is a returning All-American and wrestled in the finals of the tournament last year.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed defenseman Marc Methot on the injured list and recalled forward Alexandre Picard from Syracuse of the AHL.
General manager Scott Howson announced the moves on Sunday. Methot is expected to miss at least one week.
Picard has nine goals and 10 assists in 27 games with Syracuse this season. Columbus’ first pick and eighth overall in the 2004 draft was scoreless in his only appearance with the Blue Jackets this season.
Methot has a goal and three assists in 31 games with the Blue Jackets this season.
