The Penn State Wilkes-Barre women’s volleyball team will be hosting a benefit game against Penn State Abington at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 to help raise awareness for breast cancer.
Penn Staters and the local community are encouraged to help raise money for breast cancer research by purchasing tickets to this athletic event. Cost is $1 per person or $5 for eight tickets.
“As part of the festivities, the volleyball team will be raffling off Penn State football tickets as well as gift cards and baskets,” said PSU/Wilkes-Barre coach Regan Palfey, whose mother was a breast cancer survivor.
The team will also conduct a bake sale and have t-shirts and bracelets available.

The Jewish Community Center of Wyoming Valley will hold its annual 3-Mile Benjamin August Memorial Run & Walk at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Pre-registration is available by calling the JCC at 824-4646 or online at jewishwilkes-barre.org. Registration the day of the race will begin at 9 a.m. The fee for the race is $17.
The JCC, in an effort to create more interest in its two yearly races, has decided to create a cash incentive award of $150 for the top male and top female runner of both races, the River Street Run and Walk and the Ben August Memorial Run and Walk, held in the fall. This cash award will be based on the average two times of the runners, not the finishing position.
